AZ Maria Middelares Ghent - C kwadraat

AZ Maria Middelares Ghent is a general hospital with two easily accessible campuses, 554 beds and more than 1500 staff members and 160 doctors.

Description | Business case

In the light of the growing need in the hospital to realise a change in the care management, the project C kwadraat was launched. The objectives concerning the optimisation of this care management were to move forward when it comes to:

• manageability and governance of the care process;
• attraction and retention of nurses;
• integration of doctors in policy and management;
• respectful internal collaboration;
• quality improvement;
• policy emphasis for the management committee;
• the execution of the care strategic plan AZMM.

hict's role was to guide the task force that was set up for this project.

Approach

hict fulfilled this task by means of interviews, task force meetings and workshops.

Result

hict guided the task force towards a function description, a practical interpretation of the medical and nursing section, a new structure in terms of a new hospital organisation chart, a numerical classification when it comes to beds & FTE's per care domain and a number of new functions with description that have to make the new structure operational.

The major innovation was the classification in three care domains: clinical diagnostics and treatment, chronic and transmural care and care support and technology. The specific nature of these care domains lies in the fact that the medical services are not clustered but will be organised patient-oriented.
