AZ Sint-Augustinus Veurne – Training policy plans

The AZ Sint-Augustinus is a regional general hospital on the outskirts of Veurne. The hospital arose from an initiative of the congregation of the Zwartzusters Bruges and disposes of 200 recognised acute hospital beds.

hict was asked to give workshops on the translation of the strategy into concrete policy plans. This implies also the organisation structure, the management culture and the division of responsibilities. The nursing direction of the Sint-Augustinus hospital asked for a pragmatic and hands-on introduction into the world of policy plans to the nursing middle management and this during four sessions of a half day each.

Approach

  • intakeof the management structure and culture of the hospital/care institution; 
  • session 1: goals – context healthcare today – the pathway to excellence – governance models, testing of the EFQM kwadrant model for the organisation Sint-Augustinus; 
  • session 2: discussion about the strategy of the organisation and effect on the workplace – location, function, process and elements of the policy plan; 
  • session 3: elaboration of the policy plan for the specific department; 
  • session 4: alignment of the policy plans throughout the entire organisation; 
  • successive recommendations for the direction for the months to come. 

Result

The final result of the sessions are first versions of the policy plans which can immediately be used on the workplace by the responsbile persons.
