Large Flemish hospital - Organisational structure department Medical Imaging

Description | business case

As part of an audit of the department Medical Imaging, hict was asked to conduct a change pathway during which a new organisational structure for the department Medical Imaging was drawn.

The problems of the current organisational structure were mapped by means of different methods:

  • task registrations;
  • analysis of theoretical and practical function profiles;
  • analysis of theoretical and practical  consultation structures;
  • structured interviews;
  • survey staff satisfaction.

Based on these problems hict drew several possible organisational structures. These organisational structures were tested and further developed into a final organisation structure during study groups with different interested parties (staff, direction, radiologists).

  • new organisation chart for the department, including:
    • complete function descriptions (goal, organisational position, tasks and responsibilities, job requirements);
    • elaborated consultation structures (internal and external);
    • elaborated escalation lines.
  • implications for the department at implementation of this new organisational structure;
  • advantages and disadvantages of this new organisational structure;
  • new vacancy for the job of head nurse.
