Jan Yperman Hospital – RFID Middleware and expansion

The Jan Yperman Hospital in Ieper is a merged hospital that groups since 1998 three general hospitals from the region – Kliniek Zwarte Zusters (Ieper), OLV Hospitaal (Ieper) and Mariaziekenhuis (Poperinge). Since 2007 all the activities are centralised at one campus, with still an outpatient's clinic in Poperinge.

Description | business case

The hospital needed someone to create a middleware solution with the following functionalities:

  • to link RFID tags to software solutions;
  • integration between MobileView and the switchboard on the one hand and MobileView and the OR package Yuse on the other hand;
  • transmission of an alarm event when the push button on the tag has been pushed;
  • transmission of an alarm event when a tag is situated outside a predefined zone;
  • logging of temperature measurements and announcement and/or transmission of alarm events when exceeding a temperature range defined per tag or groupe;
  • automatic registration of patient movements in the OR and Recovery by creating HL7 messages.

Approach

hict provided the middleware which takes care of the link with the underlying ICT infrastructure and the translation of the RFID data.

Result

By using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) as automatic identification tool int the operating room, the daycentre and the unit geriatrics to localise and protect the patient, the services come closer to the patient's needs.
