OLV van Lourdes – Policies training

In 1944 a small hospital with the name 'Clinique Notre-Dame de Lourdes' was accomodated in the orphanage of Waregem. The hospital opened the 7th of January, 1946 and had only 25 beds. After many modifications and expansions the current number of beds is now 268.

hict was asked to give workshops on the translation from the strategy to concrete policy plans. This includes organigram, management culture and definition of responsibilities. The OLV van Lourdes Hospital asked hict for a pragmatic and hands-on introduction into the world of policy plans during four half day sessions (for the management and/or middle management).

Approach

  • intake of the management structure and culture of the hospital/care centre; 
  • session 1: objectives – context healthcare today – the journey to excellence – governance models; 
  • session 2: discussion regarding the organisation's strategy and impact on the workplace – location, function, process and elements of the policy plan; 
  • session 3: design of a policy plan for the specific unit; 
  • session 4: alignment of the policy plans throughout the entire organisation; 
  • subsequent recommendations for the following months for the management. 

Result

The final result of the sessions is a first version of policy plans to be used immediately by the responsible parties at the workplace.
