Pfizer – E-tools

Pfizer was created in 1848 by the cousins Charles Pfizer and Charles Erhart. Pfizer discovers, develops, produces and distributes innovative medicines that improve the life expectancy and the quality of life of humans and animals. Pfizer is active in 90 countries throughout the world.

Description | business case

Pfizer developed a first version of e-tools, plug-ins for general practitioner packages, specifically aimed at certain treatments, and puts them at disposal of general practitioners and general practioners cabinets for free. Since the first version only caused problems, on a technical level and in terms of privacy, Pfizer planned the development of a second version of the e-tools. Pfizer asked hict how to develop this second version. Pfizer also needed a better insight into the possibilities regarding the implementation of these tools within hospital environments.

hict asked the following questions:

  • How does Pfizer want to position itself towards general practitioners and are e-tools the means to do so?
  • Does Pfizer want to enable the exchange of patient records between general practitioners through these e-tools and is Pfizer aware of its complexity (for instance privacy)?
  • Does Pfizer want to offer e-tools to hospitals, knowing that these environments are more complex?

For the development of the second version hict proposed a software-methodological approach. hict issued advice on whether or not to outsource the development of these tools and wrote scenarios for the future, in view of a possible discontinuation of these tools.
