Wesam Abudiab - Junior Consultant

Few years after my graduation, I realized the importance of having a more specialized Master in Biomedical Engineering, I applied for a course at the VUB. This was my first time in a European country.

During the Biomedical Industry Day which was organised by BEAM, I went looking for a chance to meet with certain manufacturing companies, things changed in my mind when I read the information about hict and their activities: I wanted to join their team from this first moment.

Few months later I started working and joined hict’s team, with my main responsibility of further developing the MENA market (Middle East & North Africa) with the services of hict.

I got to know more about all hict’s projects, services, capacities, competencies, contacts and network. I still remember my first Monday Morning Meeting in hict which was completely in Dutch: it was very difficult for me to understand most of it. Today I am able to express myself in Dutch during this meeting thanks to my colleagues’ support and patience.

Working at hict gives me the chance to build bridges between Belgium and the MENA region, knowing the culture and the market of MENA and living in the heart of Europe is a good combination between understanding what’s needed there and what’s available here!

Inês Calafate - Junior Consultant

I have always felt at odds with two sides of my personality, one that craves genuine human interaction and another that is fascinated with scientific rigor. Nursing seemed like a perfect fit for me but at the end of my bachelor I thought I needed to further explore the links between politics, economics, sociology and healthcare. With a community health specialty and a masters in public health in hand I was eager to gain field experience. After teaching in a nursing school, developing public and community health projects in various nonprofit institutions in Brussels, I was still looking for a challenge and decided to apply for a position at hict.

A little over half a year with hict, I couldn’t imagine myself somewhere else. I have had the chance to put into practice my almost 10 years of field experience in a wide scope of projects. From project coaching to flow analysis and market introduction research, hict gave me the chance to learn while using my skills to enrich the teams.

The dynamic team is also a blast to work with – different backgrounds, different experiences, same high level of motivation – and I feel like I am evolving every day. Management is incredibly accessible and have gladly discussed with me my trainings and work hour flexibility requests. Living in Brussels, I work often from home but make it a point to be at the office every week. A certification and a language course were also happily validated by management.

My two sides are both fulfilled at hict ! The human interaction side is something I get to explore as a project coach, as no two clients or institutions are the same. The scientific rigor is expected of me at every turn as aiming for quality quantitative results is one of our main goals.

I definitely can’t wait for my next challenge at hict!

Britt Callebaut - Junior Consultant

When I graduated two years ago as a Civil Engineer in Computer Science, my thirst for knowledge was not yet properly satisfied. That is why I decided to pursue a second master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, intent on completing a summer internship to better prepare myself for life as a working woman. At the Biomedical Industry Day, organized to help foster interaction between biomedical engineering students and healthcare industry, I met many interesting companies, but it was hict, a healthcare consultancy company, that spoke out to me the most.

Summer came and I found myself in beautiful Bruges, full of enthusiasm to start my internship at hict. My enthusiasm only grew during a very interesting, instructive and varying summer experience. I instantly felt at home amongst the colleagues, so it should come as no surprise that half a year later I was the newest junior consultant of the hict team.

For the last few months, I have been working within the Value Management team. My main occupation is to design, implement and populate health economic evaluations. These evaluation are used in the context of reimbursement requests for innovative therapies, which means that my day to day activities actively contribute to help make healthcare innovation available to the general public!

Working at hict not only allows me to learn a lot about the medical side of diseases and their cures, but also requires me to apply my engineering background creatively to help solve the challenges at hand. Next to specific technical skills and applied health economic practice, I also learn a lot about what it means to be a consultant by actively being involved in project management, customer communication and by simply being part of the team.

Working on several projects at the same time can sometimes be challenging, but it makes for a diversified and inspiring working experience. I can’t wait to find out what challenges lie just around the corner!
